I am known among my friends as the Computer Specialist. They come to me every time their computers give them a hard time. Quite a few of them have approached me during the last three months with the same question – “My computer is slow? What should I do to speed it up? My answer is always – clean up the registry first. I don’t know about you, but my friends and I prefer not to spend time whenever possible, that’s why I had to find a creative solution to their problem, to find a free piece of software that can get the job done. Luckily I was able to find a free decent registry cleaner, it is called CCleaner. If you want to give it a try just type its name in any of the search engines and you should be able to easily locate a download link. Most of the times my friends are able to speed up their computers with help from CCleaner, but sometimes depending on how bad the situation is they need something more powerful. No, I don’t contradict myself – Ccleaner is a great free registry cleaner. On the other side being free is one of its biggest weaknesses. The old saying that you get what you pay for still hold true. There is a group of developers behind CCleaner, but they work on it in their spare time without being paid. Compare that to the dedicated teams engaged in developing paid registry cleaners. That’s the reason the latter have more essential features and it just makes sense to make a one time investment in registry cleaner. Here is what I would do if I was you and my computer was slow. I would download Cleaner, scan the registry and fix the errors and see if there was any improvement. If there is – fine, keep scanning your registry on a regular basis and it will stay error free. However if your computer is still slow you will need another approach. You will need a registry cleaner that is able to detect more registry errors. Just do the following – download a registry cleaner such as Registry Easy or RegCure – it is free to download the software and scan the registry. That’s why it is free, but if the software happens to find any registry errors you would have to buy it to have them fixed. The price is more than reasonable – decent registry cleaners retail for about $40. Keep in mind that this is a one time investment and you are entitled to free lifetime updates. Don’t get me wrong – I am not trying to talk you into buying a registry cleaner. Quite the opposite – do you best not to, but sometimes you’ve got to do, what you’ve got to do.
