Recently, my brother attempted to install Windows XP on my old laptop. Unfortunately, he ‘skipped’ parts of the installation and now XP will not setup. Is there any way I can reinstall XP properly or fix this problem without pulling money out of my wallet?

Simply reformat and reinstall XP. This is called “nuking” a computer, since it’s a fresh clean start and all files are erased.
When you boot your computer to the XP install disc, it will ask you if you want to format the drive or not. Format it, and XP should install just fine. If it doesn’t, it’s likely the hard drive you’re using is toast. Meaning, it doesn’t work anymore, or has surface errors.
